What is Patreon?

Patreon is a way to join and engage with your favorite creatives - a dedicated place to follow and enjoy content from artists you know and love and support their creative practice via paid membership or digital products. By paying them directly for exclusive content, you are showing your support and enable them to create more of the work you love.

Jennifer joined the Patreon platform in 2022 as a means to share her studio practice at a time when it was entering a materials-heavy exploration phase of creating - starting with “The Swatch Project”. Finding a meaningful way to document the experiments and processes became a priority, and with Jennifer’s background in education, she was immediately drawn to sharing this new type of studio experience with her fans and followers.

Jennifer understands the artist’s path is one filled with uncertainty, and knows that every little bit of support helps keep the studio doors open.

“I sincerely appreciate everyone who chooses to follow my studio practice on Patreon. Additionally, by choosing to commit with paid memberships - knowing that financial support is received every month is especially meaningful to me as a career artist. Thank you for your incredible generosity and the opportunity to continue creating!”

“On top of all the regular difficulties of the jury process, it should also be noted, that it's incredibly hard to submit images for what you will have to showcase 7 months down the road. Firstly, I can't submit pieces I have in progress to be juried. And since my latest work often takes months to create, it isn't easy to have images ready so far in advance. Secondly, my work is evolving. The work I've completed in the past doesn't represent where my work is going.

So, here I am. It's the last day I can apply to a show I would love to do - what do I submit?”

“It has been difficult to find an endpoint to my recent studio dalliances. I have to admit, even though [this] subject is more dire than my usual hopeful subject matter, it feels good to finish up a piece this week that started as a distraction I felt compelled to make…. I usually find and express hope in my art-making. With continuing wars around the globe, natural disasters increasing and the decline of species - I find I need to also find ways to express my exasperation. With this art, I wish to encourage more dialogue and encourage action to find a way ahead with renewed hope.”

“Re-imaging my studio journal practice to include daily sessions of listening to my various audio recordings while writing notes about the projects in process and creating plans for the studio day ahead was also a huge help to kick-start my year. I've become more engaged with my journaling practice while being more focused on my art practice. Granted, it's only January, but I see progress and feel purpose.

From my Instagram post 1/19/23

I'm learning to journal through the stitches, recordings, and copious notes which come together to mark a moment in time, to add permanence to the ephemeral, to live beyond the fleeting tick of a clock and the tenuous hold of memories slowly drifting out to sea under a retreating embers glow.”
