On Portals and "The Art of Inspiration"

“I hear the greetings of my grandparents in the streets as we walk along the streets of Croatia, and a familiar lone corvid call reaching out for its mate along a barren trail on Crete; I recall the scent of seas familiar to me and the sweetness of fruit ripening in the summer sun; A bright orange globe on the horizon recalls memories of camping on the Oregon Coast, while seagulls floating close by on the wind and air, are always watching for an offering. Graffiti walls, lapping waters, mandalas of thread and stone. They find a home in a curious heart yearning to see, feel, and understand the ways we are tangled together amongst roots that have grown apart..”

~ Notes from “Portals” - ArtistNotes.Substack.com

“[A] collection of photographs… [that] spans more than a decade of noticing the small details, patterns, moments of beauty and mundanity that fell into view within the simple act of attention. As a painter and then mixed media artist, I brought these moments back to my studio and used them to inspire me - sometimes literally, and often, spiritually. They gave me an opportunity to be creative when my energy was insufficient to complete the smallest tasks and propelled me to cover large canvases in times of creative abundance. I share them now as a means to understand my relationship to the world around me and offer the reader a view of an artist’s inner dialogue between what we see, imagine, and create - of life, translated as art, in whatever form that takes.”
