Sept. 2026 Workshop - Collage on the Coast in Newport, OR

from $150.00

Collage on the Coast - a Workshop with Oregon artist Jennifer Lommers: “Grounding Your Art with History”
A painted collage workshop, appropriate for all levels - from beginner to advanced (Age 16+)

“Gounding” - a sense of providing place and history for the creative process, as well as a reference to the materials used in uniting collage elements in preparation for further painting exploration.

Workshop Date: Saturday, September 19, 2026, 10am - 4pm
(with optional Friday session and Sunday meetup)

Location: The Visual Arts Center in beautiful Newport, Oregon

  • FRIDAY (Session Optional): Collage Material Preparation using Gelatin Plate Printing (12-3pm) - $40 + $5 materials fee

  • SATURDAY: Creating a Collage Base (10am-12pm), Painting & Drawing on Collage (1pm-4pm) - $150

  • SUNDAY Morning: (Optional Bonus Gathering): Informal coffee and critique with Jennifer
(Time and location TBD at class) - No Fee

In this workshop, participants create art developed from collaged paper materials - vintage, collected, repurposed, drawn, and printed. From this base, participants can choose to work in any medium that can be worked on a gessoed surface (e.g., watercolor, ink, acrylic) - whatever is most comfortable and familiar will be the easiest for success, though no painting experience is required. Jennifer will be demonstrating with watercolor and ink and recommends one or both of these media for beginners. Traditional oil painting (with thinners) and other products that require ventilation cannot be used for this workshop.

Collaging with vintage materials began for Jennifer with inherited collections of memorabilia, photos, documents, stamps, and other ephemera. Wanting to find purpose and new meaning for these items became a passion that fit well within her broader desire to be economical with resources and more thoughtful in her artistic choices. After first introducing her collage methods in smaller formats, she is excited to share her collage experience to create larger works of art.
