Artist Statement:
“This piece was inspired by a trip to Playa Summer Lake in Southeast Oregon. The bird depicted is based on a short-eared owl sighting near one of the ridges along this magnificent basin. The owl, a frequent day-time flyer, was keeping a close eye on us hikers due to its nearby nest. I’ve used a variety of watercolor pigments in the background, including some natural colors which I ground from rocks within the basin. The more vibrant colors are painted with Daniel Smith watercolors. I hope you enjoy.”
